Why does Women in Computer Sciences volunteer?

Women in Computer Science's mission is to encourage and support women in computing through outreach, professional development, academic initiatives, and social events. We want women of all ages to realize what Computer Science is all about. Volunteering also helps members learn about themselves and build leadership skills.

Non-profit organizations and volunteering events that WICS has associated with:

• Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) - We have taught to middle school girls what computer science is all about. This event happens in the Spring and volunteers are also needed for various things.



• First Bytes - A week long camp for 50 juniors and senior high school girls from all over from get to come to the UT and learn what computer science is all about. WICS members put time into helping them with coding to just being a mentor.



• Explore UT - This event happens every year. WICS members help the University of Texas with the kids that come through the Computer Science Department.



• High School Educating - WICS members went to High Schools and spoke with the students about Computer Science.
