Through TexMol we have created .rawiv meshes of .pdb molecular data. The rawiv files are then converted to .obj so they can be imported into Maya. The .rawiv files can be output in different resolutions with different blobbiness settings. When imported into Maya the meshes are very coarse but with a lot of geometry. I’ve been able to use Maya to smooth the mesh without changing topology. Below are these models rendered using mental ray.
