Bert's Bench

Friends of Bert:

We are happy to report that Bert's Bench was installed last month along Town Lake here in Austin. We selected the general location and the Parks & Recreation Department placed it in a fine site, near the kid's train turnaround and under a shade tree. It is one of the few benches (maybe the only one) that faces Zilker Park. Thus, it has a view of the soccer fields and volleyball courts, where hundreds of kids play every weekend.

We appreciate your support for this permanent memorial to Bert's memory. We encourage you to visit the bench yourself on your next trip to Zilker Park. Just find the end of the train track and look for the bench nearby.

Friends of Bert Kay,

I am happy to inform you that we have successfully raised the $1800.00 needed to install a bench in Bert's memory. Thanks a *lot* to everyone who contributed and helped us raise the money in such a short time.

On Tuesday, Mike and I went to the Austin PARD and arranged to have the bench installed. The site we have picked is on the Town Lake hike/bike trail, near the soccer fields at Zilker Park. It is easily accessible and has a very nice view. The bench should be installed early in December. We will send out another email when we know the exact date of its installation.

Thank you very much,
