I am a PhD student in computer science at the University of Texas at Austin. My advisor is Jayadev Misra.

My primary area of research and expertise is programming languages; I am especially interested in formal models of concurrency, such as process calculi. For the past six years, I have been working on the theory and implementation of the Orc programming language.

personal
Outside of computer science, I have many hobbies and interests.
I have studied cognitive psychology and neuroscience in addition to computer science. I am very interested in topics in cognition, especially relating to the phenomenon of unitary consciousness and the neurological basis of emotion.
I have long been interested in music. I have produced electronic music as a member of the musical group Hofmann Drive. I am also an electronic music DJ; I focus on downtempo and ambient music ranging from Brian Eno to Kilowatts, as well as dance music, and I occasionally produce studio mixes. In addition, I am learning to play the native american flute.
I like tie dye, and I am usually seen wearing one of over a dozen different tie dye shirts. I collect tie dye sold by vendors in Austin and elsewhere, and have begun making my own.
I have attended the Burning Flipside art festival in Central Texas for the past three years.
