The June 22, 2009 Crash of Two Washington, D.C. Metro Trains

 

During the evening rush hour of June 22, 2009, two Washington, D.C. Metro trains collided, killing 9 people.

There is clearly risk associated with turning over critical tasks to machines.  But of course, completely human-run systems are not risk-free.  Can you find out anything that enables us to compare train fatalities given modern, automated trains with train fatalities when we used older trains where human operators played more important roles?
