The Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin is proud to present First Bytes, an award winning outreach program designed especially for high school women who want a "taste" of computer science through "hands-on" experience. It is designed to dispel myths about computer science and intrigue young women with the potential of computing and the excitement of problem solving.

First Bytes is sponsored by the Texas Workforce Commission to increase both the quality and quantity of undergraduate computer science students graduating from Texas universities.

First Bytes awards include:

  • Women in Natural Sciences 2005 “Everybody WINS Award”
  • College of Natural Sciences 2006 Innovative Outreach Award
