Gatlin C Johnson
Computer Science student at the University of Texas, Austin
Summary
I study CS and am pursuing certification as a high school math teacher through UTeach.
I have a broad interest in numerous areas of CS, and expect to graduate Fall of 2011. I don't want to bore anyone, so here are some interesting
links pertaining to me.
I am an advocate of free software, open standards and open formats. I distrust software patents and have never heard a sane argument in support of lengthy copyright
terms. Here are my political leanings: My results from the Political Compass test.
I have completed a graduate course in computer graphics and will be doing research in neural nets during Fall of 2010. My professional history is almost
entirely composed of writing web apps in PHP and Python, though I am happy to work on projects in other domains as well (as a matter of fact, I'm downright eager to do so).
If you wish to contact me, see my email addresses. Any of them should work fine.
Links
- A finite state machine program I wrote for CS 337. It takes in files of "machines" and then parses input strings to see if they satisfy
the FSM. I am quite proud of the elegance of this program given the 20 minutes or so I had to write it.
- The Weasel Program. It's a Lisp implementation of Dr Richard Dawkins' weasel program. It shows how, through successive randomized
mutations, complex structures can evolve quickly without the need for Intelligent Design.
- A Fibonacci program I wrote in Assembly. Hedasplode.
- The coolest program ever written. Not mine, but it's pretty cool.
- My vimrc. Every good masturbatory geek home page should have a link to this. Features include code folding, line numbers, and syntax-
highlighting support for a number of different languages.
- While we're at it, my screenrc. Because you're using screen, right?
- Arch Linux. I have an on-and-off love affair with this distribution, because it really does kick ass.
- MacPorts. Brings package management and troves of great free unix software to Mac OS X.
- College Houses. If you are a student in the Austin area, consider living in our Communist paradise!
