University Place Hotel & Conference Center
310 SW Lincoln St
Portland, Oregon 97201 [map]

The University Place Hotel & Conference Center is near Portland State University, a streetcar ride or short walk distance away from the Willamette river waterfront, and a MAX ride from Portland International Airport (PDX). We have reserved a block of rooms at the hotel, under group name "FMCAD" (a subgroup of "MEMOCODE & FMCAD Conferences"). Please submit your individual reservation requests directly to the hotel (and not via a travel agency), either by phone at +1-866-845-4647, or via an email to Bich-Hahn Le at bichhahn@pdx.edu

You can select a "Single Deluxe King" room or share a "Double Occupancy Deluxe Double" room with a roommate. The price is $99 per room (excluding tax). For FMCAD participants, this special reduced rate applies for the period starting three days before the conference and ending three days afterward, based upon availability. We encourage you to consider staying at the conference hotel and to reserve your hotel room as soon as possible.

Banquet

The Banquet will be held on Tuesday 22 October at the Portland City Grill:

Transportation

Portland International Airport (PDX) hosts national, as well as transatlantic and transpacific flights. In particular, PDX offers nonstop service to and from Frankfurt, Tokyo, and Amsterdam. Transport for PDX to and from the hotel is about $45 by taxi or $2.50 by Trimet MAX lightrail with one transfer.

The easiest way to ride MAX from PDX to the hotel (and vice versa) is to take the red line at PDX, transfer at Rose Quarter Transit Center to the green line (same platform) and ride the green line all the way to the end at "PSU South/SW 5th & Jackson St" (see map). Walk 5 minutes south-east, following the brand-new MAX tracks not yet in use, to the hotel. MAX tickets can be bought at the ticket-machines at the MAX station at PDX, and for the return trip at the ticket machine at "PSU South/SW 5th & Jackson St." MAX station.

If the MAX ride looks a little daunting after a long flight, you can reserve a seat at the "Blue Star Shuttle" for $14, which will transport you door to door between PDX and the hotel. For shuttle reservations, please call 503-249-1837 or 1-800-247-2272 (toll-free), or reserve on-line.

University Place has on-site, including ADA, parking spaces available to conference attendees and guests for a daily fee of $15, or for $3 per hour.

Other Travel Information

Expect Portland to be somewhat rainy and cool in October, with average highs of 63°F (17°C). Much of the greater Portland metro area is accessible via public transportation, and it is convenient to plan trips using Google.

For links to Portland attractions see either Travel Portland or the hotel web site. The Willamette river waterfront, the Portland Art Museum, Oregon Historical Society, music, film, good food, and a city block of Powell's Books are a short streetcar ride or pleasant walking distance away from the hotel. For a day-trip to the nearest volcanoes, Mount Hood or Mount St. Helens, you can rent a car in the hotel's front lobby.

Enjoy your stay in Portland, Oregon!
