New Home

Once again, I've decided to move my webpage. The new address is at http://www.cs.utexas.edu/~jchien/, located on the webspace for my UT CS account. Might as well take advantage of all the space I get, eh?

I know all the old picture links are broken, I think I'm going have to manually fix all that later. I'll probably end up just whipping up a quick program to sloppily fix all the old links. But hrmm, then every time I republish the entire blog, it'd all get overwritten. Darn. I might have to fix every individual thing manually.

On another note, my programs page has also moved to the UT CS servers and can be found at http://www.cs.utexas.edu/~jchien/code/.

Fetch Text URL is now up to version 1.3, now allowing for slightly sloppier highlighting! As usual, if you already have the extension installed you can simply install the new one over it without worrying about anything.

The Motherland

Shanghai is really pretty, except for the layer of haze that seems to cover the city. The buildings are all pretty cool, and there's neon lights on like everything it seems. The Pudong Shangri-La Shanghai Hotel we're staying at is like the best hotel I've ever been in. I went to the restroom and there was this guy who just waits there to hand you a towel. He thought I was done, but I just stopped to get some soap, so he waited some more. It was kind of amusing. Then the bellhop didn't even wait around for a tip after dropping off our luggage. We have a good view of the river. I forgot to bring my connection cable for my camera, but I'll try to put up some pictures when I can.

The plane flight to here from Chicago was kinda sucky though. I didn't get to sit by anyone I knew, and I couldn't sleep like at all. The only good part was watching the Incredibles.

Today we had to sit through several hours of IBM propoganda (which they openly admitted theirselves) and a ton of speeches for the opening ceremony. However, they did have this cool Chinese drum show to open it, which sorta made it worth it. We also got some free stuff, and free stuff is always good.

Tomorrow is some Parallel Programming Challenge for fun, and Wednesday will be the actual contest.
