I am a fourth year PhD student in Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. My research is currently supported by an NSF Graduate Research Fellowship. I'm also co-mastermind of FAI.

Research Interests
I'm interested primarily in representation both in machine learning and theoretical evolutionary biology. In no particular order this includes latent variable models, metric and topology learning, and evolvability under randomized search schemes. On the machine learning front better representations of data lead to more accurate prediction while understanding how evolvability of phenotypic traits is acquired in biology will help lead to better priors for bioinformatics.

Current Projects: Nonparametric Bayesian Approaches to Semantification/Information Extraction, Leveraging Evolvability in Search, Evolutionary Games with Unknown Payoff Distributions

Diversions: My hobby is taking photos; I co-author a blog on literary pleasures; I'm fluent in Japanese.
