Abstract
Social
Networks in Knowledge Management
Beginning with Milgram's classic "six degrees of separation" experiments
in the 1960s, social network theory has evolved to study how individuals
interact and disseminate information. More recently, the study has come
to encompass the broader network involving people as well as the documents
and information they interact with, examples include recommendation systems
and the use of link analysis in web search engines. This talk will
provide an overview of this evolving area and the many research problems that
arise, including subtle issues in privacy protection.

Abstract
Web
and Blog Graphs: Modelling and Mining
This talk reviews the history and challenges in performing web-scale
linkage graph measurements and computations. The emphasis will be on what
can reasonably be accomplished with modest computational resources such as
those available for research projects. We then review the challenges of
analyzing the web graph. We point out that while there are a few
successes
in terms of the local properties of the web graph, additional work is
needed in at least two areas: (1) global properties and (2) temporal
evolution.
