Since the Fourier transform is in general a complex function, a complete spectral representation would usually require evaluating both the real part and the imaginary part of the transform, or, alternatively, the amplitude spectrum and the phase spectrum. Though, for the sake of clarity, we limit the present analysis to even symmetric inhibitory schemata which lead to even symmetric RFs and which allow us to deal with amplitude spectra only.
