Alluvial Fan and Fan Lake

The Alluvial Fan, formed by debris (alluvium) washed down in the flood caused by failure of the Lawn Lake dam in 1982, is seen looking NE from Rainbow Curve on Trail Ridge Road. Fan Lake was formed when debris dammed up Fall River. It is predicted that Fan Lake will fill up with silt and revert to meadow, and it already seems to have shrunk.
