I am currently a Doctoral Candidate and
Assistant Instructor in the Department of Computer Sciences at The
University of Texas at Austin. My general areas of interest are
Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Robotics, and Cognitive Science.
My thesis advisor is Prof. Benjamin Kuipers. My dissertation
is on a hybrid metrical/topological framework for mobile robot
navigation that is inspired by human cognitive abilities.
Via Prof. Peter Stone, I am also a member of Austin Robot
Technology, a loose group of technologists working on an autonomous
vehicle. Our team, whose main focus was on educating
undergraduates, placed in the top 21 teams in the 2007 DARPA Urban
Challenge. I am teaching undergraduate research courses to get
freshmen and sophomores involved in robotics research.
