I direct the CIPRES Project, or "Cyber-Infrastructure for Phylogenetic Research". The CIPRES project is a multi-institutional collaboration funded by the NSF Information Technology Research (ITR) program grant entitled "BUILDING THE TREE OF LIFE: A National Resource for Phyloinformatics and Computational Phylogenetics". This project is focused on contributing software for large-scale phylogeny reconstruction, especially as service to ATOL projects. I am the focus leader for the algorithms research in this group.

I am affiliated with several organizations within the University of Texas. For example, I am now affiliated with the Computational Linguistics group at UT, for my research in mathematical historical linguistics. I am also affiliated with the Institute for Cellular and Molecular Biology, the The Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences , and the Center for Computational Biology and Bioinformatics. I am also a member of five graduate programs at UT: Computer Science, Molecular Biology, Mathematics, Computational and Applied Mathematics, and Ecology, Evolution, and Behavior.
