For people wondering who the new WICS President is, it is Amy Schendel. Hopefully we can get a picture of her to post up here. Below is what was last sent by our new president.

This Sun Sept 7th -WiCS Welcome Pool Party
Noon-2pm, Gregory Gym Outdoor Pool(s)
We're going to be giving out food out in front of Gregory from 11:55am-12:30pm (just look for the girls in WiCS t-shirts), then you can just go to the pool and informally chill with all us fine WiCS chicks

Wed Sept 17th - WiCS Kickoff
5:30pm - Texan Union, Quadrangle room
We'll explain some of our programs, have some fun meeting the other WiCS girls, and of course free food and t-shirts! We can not forget this all could not happened if it were not for our sponsers Lockheed Martin and the University Co-op thanks for support.

Thur Sept 25th - First WiCS General Meeting
4:30pm - location TBD
Anyone can help run WiCS! We'll set up more events for the semester, and give you free cookies for chipping in.

New Shirts!
We have 2 new shirts for WICS. Drop by a WICS meeting to meet everyone or drop by Tiffany Grady's office in Taylor's ground floor(2nd). Tiffany would love to meet you. They now have University of Texas now on them so we can really are represent.

AHHHHH Taylor Basement
So I am not sure if everyone has heard about the little flood the basement got but basically the WICS office also got distroyed as well. If anyone is interested in helping give the office a fresh new start for this semester, we will be figuring out at the next meeting when we can fix up the office. If you want to help out and can't come to the first meeting just email wics@cs.utexas.edu.

Fall 2008 1st WICS Dinner coming upSunday, September 21st
Details are in the works and all that has been talked about has been maybe having it at Hoovers Sunday, September 21st at 7:45pm. More information about the dinner will be sent to all ungraduate women in the department. If you want to make sure you get these detail please email wics@cs.utexas.edu requesting to be informed and we will make sure your email address is on the mailing list.

Do you want to inspire the next generation of female leaders?
Girlstart is looking for female students from WICS to provide mentoring and computer programming assistance for high school girls during their after-school Project IT Girl meetings! You will work one-on-one with the girls and commit to at least five hours of service over the spring semester, including one orientation session.

Connecting the Project IT Girls with female mentors is an essential element of the Project IT Girl philosophy.

Won't you join the Project IT Girl volunteer team?

Volunteers for this position must:
Be passionate about helping girls see a future for themselves in technology
Have solid programming experience
Attend one orientation meeting
Commit to volunteering off campus at least twice during the spring semester. Volunteer times are:
Tuesdays 6:00 - 7:30 North Austin location; 5:30 - 7:00 South location
Wednesdays 5:30 - 7:00 North Austin or South Austin location
