To fill the need for entry-level mobile computing professions, the Game and Mobile Media (GAMMA) Program, as part of the Department of Computer Science is offering the Mobile Computing Certificate.  The Mobile Computing Certificate is for students who want to create mobile apps and games. Students must complete two core classes, which include one of the platform specific courses: Android Programming or iPhone programming, and one networking course.  In addition, students must complete one approved elective.

1. Mobile Platform Requirement (Choose one)
   • CS 371M:  Mobile Computing (Android), or
   • CS 378:     iOS Mobile Computing

2. CS 356R: Introduction to Wireless Networking*

3. Three electives from the following list of upper-division courses:
   CS 344M: Autonomous Multiagent Systems
   CS 354S: Game Dev Capstone: 2D Games
   CS 356:   Computer Networks 
   CS 371D: Distributed Computing
   CS 361S: Network Security and Privacy  
   CS 378:   Automated Question Answering
   CS 378:   Mobile News App Design
   CS 378:   Modern Web Applications
   CS 378:   Principles of Interaction Design
   CS 378:   The other mobile platform specific course, either Android or iPhone

*One of the following may count as a substitute for CS 356R, but CANNOT double-count as an elective:  CS 356 Computer Networks, CS 378 Modern Web Apps, or CS 361S Network Security and Privacy.

Finally, students are encouraged to take courses outside of the Certificate program to augment their mobile computing skills.

The CS Certificate in Mobile Computing does not appear on UT's official transcript. The Certificate may be stated on a resume as evidence of knowledge in mobile computing. The Certificate will be accompanied by a letter and certificate that explains the program.
