BUILDING MULTIFUNCTIONAL KNOWLEDGE-BASES FROM COMPONENTS

(May 1996 slide presentation on the DCE KB project)

Abstract: In order to amortize the effort of knowledge engineering, our group is developing methods for building large, task-neutral knowledge bases that support multiple applications. The goal of my research is to develop a new, simpler method for knowledge engineering, one which constructs large knowledge bases from a library of small, reusable components. In this talk, I will describe the application of this method to constructing the DCE Knowledge Base, containing knowledge about distributed computing, and how the knowledge base is used by a variety of help-desk application systems.
