Class of ’96 UTCS Alumna
I'm currently a non-degree seeking student who, following a sixteen year hiatus from industry, is rediscovering the world of computer science.
After nearly ten years working as an embedded systems software developer, I was compelled to put my career on hold and focus on my family and home. Part of that effort included volunteering at my children's elementary school as a Spanish teacher. This foray into teaching, and my love of software development, led to a part-time computer science teaching position at St. Andrew's Episcopal School. During my children's junior high years, life steered me in a different direction once again. It wasn't until my youngest's junior year in high school that I found myself anew in the role of educator: I was offered a long-term substitue computer science teaching position at her school — and that reignited my interest in CS. Now that both of my children are in college, I've returned to UT to explore areas of computer science outside the embedded systems space. I'm particularly drawn to full-stack application development and mobile computing, which offer me the right balance of visual and technical gratification.
