Handles the coordination of area chairs, ensure GRACS vision is focused and executed. Interfaces with department chair and administration.
Area chairs are similar to vice presidents / tzars. They will take responsibility for one major GRACS initiative and have been in GRACS at least 1 semester. They might have several people underneath them to help with coordination.
This is likely the area that requires two people. Main responsibilities include organizing teatime, TGIF, and other miscellaneous social events (including IM League). Note that this does not mean that the area chairs have to host teatime every week themselves. Rather they must coordinate our volunteers to sign up for hosting throughout the semester.
Responsibilities of this position include coordinating biweekly talks/seminars on various topics (getting academia job, writing good papers, fellowship writing, etc.) by professors / senior grads, informal research events for students. They also will organize a department wide research symposium for graduate students interested in presenting their research.
This position manages the graduate student advisory board (GSAB). The responsibilities of the graduate student advisory board are outlined in the commission document. Effectively, this position keeps tabs on the health of the graduate student body through a semesterly survey and subsequently compile and presents this information to faculty. They also hold one open office hours a semester so people can voice their concerns.
The first year liaison will help smooth the transition into graduate school for incoming students. Tasks include hosting first year oriented events and peer mentorship.
Maintains our website and our public facing documentation. This is not a major responsibility.
