Course Description:
This course studies software design, implementation, and validation techniques through the review of software industry practices as well as participation on team software projects. It emphasizes structured analysis, programming style, and project documentation in large software projects with the goal of identifying the engineering skills for developing higher-quality, maintainable software systems.

The textbook is on the Longhorn Textbook Access (LTA) program. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING FROM THE UNIVERSITY COOP:
The LTA program provides the Course Materials to students in digital format through Canvas on the first day of classes (or when the Canvas course is published) for the lowest available price. On the 5th class day, students will be billed on their UT “What I Owe” account for the LTA material. They have until the 12th class day to “opt-out” in Canvas and purchase an alternative elsewhere, or up to the 20th class day to pay the LTA bill. Estimated (not final) student price: $39.39 Duration: perpetual.
Prerequisites:
The prerequisites for this course are CS 429 or CS 429H with a grade of at least C-.
Absences:
Excused absences may be given only for verifiable medical or family emergencies. Written documentation must be provided to qualify for an excused absence. The medical documentation must specifically state that you could not attend class due to your illness and must be signed by a physician. A job or internship interview or any other appointment does not constitute an excused absence.
Sexual Misconduct Reporting (SB 212):
Beginning January 1, 2020, Texas Senate Bill 212 requires all employees of Texas universities, including faculty, report any information to the Title IX Office regarding sexual harassment, sexual assault, dating violence and stalking that is disclosed to them. Texas law requires that all employees who witness or receive any information of this type (including, but not limited to, writing assignments, class discussions, or one-on-one conversations) must be reported.
