[PHLSIM]README.TXT This disk contains six files: 1. Readme.txt - this file 2. Induct.bas - BASICA source code for the INDUCT program 3. Fast.bas - BASICA source code for the FAST program 4. Induct.exe - stand-alone executable code for INDUCT 5. Fast.exe - stand-alone executable code for FAST 6. Phlsim.txt - text file document which describes the educational use of the two programs Instructors should carefully read Phlsim.txt before trying these programs in their classes. Phlsim.txt also has references to other articles, published and forthcoming, which contain more detailed discussion about the educational purposes of these programs. Please note that the source code is in BASICA. These programs can be run in the BASICA interpreter, but students will then be able to read the rules of the systems unless the code is protected. The programs are better used by students when they are compiled (and the source code is not available to them). The compiled programs, INDUCT.EXE and FAST.EXE, can be run from the DOS prompt by typing INDUCT or FAST, resp. The programs have been run on DOS 2.0, DOS 3.0, and MS-DOS 3.1. They require an IBM PC, XT, or AT with a color graphics adapter and color monitor, or a completely compatible system (e.g., I have run them with no changes on a Tandy 3000). They have also run on an AT with an Enhanced Graphics Adapter and Monitor. The programs have been compiled with Microsoft's BASIC Compiler Ver. 1.00 and also with the newer Microsoft QuickBasic Compiler. The *.exe files on this disk were made from the former. I have never tried the *.exe files on a machine with less than 512K RAM, although they should run in considerably less memory. Although FAST is a more interesting program than INDUCT, it is also considerably harder to understand and work with. I strongly advise that one try working with INDUCT for awhile before starting with FAST. Robert L. Causey Department of Philosophy University of Texas at Austin Austin, TX 78712 March 9, 1987
