We have moved some distance from th

e days of programming for a machine to building large systems. However ind

ustry practice still has to rely very heavily on human skills and expertise
in order to deliver the required functionality with the desired quality on
time. Rapid advance of technology
platforms ever-shrinking window of

opportunity and increasing size of the system being developed further exace

rbate the situation. Manufacturing industry has addressed this problem quit

e satisfactorily through automation of oft-repeated tasks and flexible asse

mbly lines. Having accepted that
software is not governed by physical l

aws still can we learn from other mature industries and apply this to sof

tware development? The talk presents how model-driven techniques can be use

d to support a software factory. We have used these techniques to deliver s

everal large business-critical applications over the past 12 years.

Speaker Bio:
Vinay is a Principal Scientist working at the oldest R&D la

b of TCS India''s largest IT consultancy organization where he is respons

ible for research on Next Generation Enterprise Systems. Vinay''s work of t

he past 14 or so years
in model-driven development has found its way in

to a toolset (MasterCraft) that has been used extensively to deliver severa

l business-critical applications on a variety of technology platforms. This
work has also contributed to two of the three core standards for model-dri

ven development. Vinay holds a Masters degree in EE from IIT Madras.
