Talk Title: Hack'Em Horns with eBay Inc. - Pre-Hack Information Session

Abstract: Abstract:  Gaming meets commerce and giving.  As a long-time leader of innovative ways to drive commerce and community, eBay Inc is hosting a hack-a-thon focused on the gamification of commerce and charity. eBay Inc will bring leading technologists from across their various business units to the UT campus for an all night fun and food festival where together we explore bringing out more fun in giving back to community and inspiring new forms of commerce.

The hackathon will start at 5:00 pm on November 2, and end at 12:00 pm on November 3. You should form teams now and bring your best ideas for combining mobile, web, APIs, creativity, and community. We'll have plenty of food, drinks, food, prizes, food, and technical advice on hand come join the fun! Great prizes -Xbox 360, 250 GB Console with Kinect, iPhone 5 (32GB), iPod Touch. 

Speaker Bio: Mike McCartney is a Distinguished Engineer at PayPal. He has received various honors or awards, such as excellence in Learning Technologies for inventing PayPal's innovative learning environment "Tech Jam" which brings together engineers to research, experiment, and play with new technologies. His Patents include automatically inserting relevant hyperlinks into a webpage, and method and apparatus for sharing objects among a plurality of processes. His skills and expertise span C++, Perl, Scalability, Distributed Systems, System Architecture, Object Oriented Design, OOAD, Technical Leadership, Large Scale Systems, Multithreading, Python, CVS, GIT, JAVA, and agile, to name a few. Mike graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.S. in Computer Science and was involved with UPE, ACM.
