Apply early to ensure your materials are submitted by the deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for admission consideration, you’ll need to meet the minimum requirements for the UT Graduate School and the program requirements below.

Relevant Education

Applicants for all UT Austin graduate programs are required to have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the United States or a comparable degree from a foreign academic institution.

Admissions & Enrollment Statistics

GPA

To be eligible for admission, you’ll need a GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) in upper-division courses and any graduate work you’ve completed.
 Given the competitive nature of our program, successful applicants typically have an above-average GPA in their CS coursework.

4 Review Your MyStatus Portal for Application Completion

Required Application Materials

Applicants must submit the Office of Graduate Admissions (OGA) Required Application Materials. Please see the Graduate School website for a full list of required materials.

Optional Materials

Opting out of submitting optional materials does not adversely impact your application.

Letters of Recommendation
Request and manage recommendation letters through your MyStatus portal. Recommenders can be supervisors or academic references. Do not exceed three recommendations.

GRE General Score (optional for Fall 2025)
If you believe that it would strengthen your application, you may take the GRE and submit your official scores.
