Student Support
From your first semester through graduation, we’re here to support your success and well-being. Whether you need academic support, peer mentorship or wellness resources, you’ll find a strong network to guide you every step of the way.
Your First-Year Support System
Starting your journey at UT is an exciting time full of new experiences. Through campus-wide events and CS-specific programs, you'll build friendships and find the support you need to thrive. Your first year is about making connections, getting involved and setting yourself up for success on the Forty Acres.
New Student Orientation
Orientation is your official welcome to life at UT. You’ll register for classes, discover campus resources and start building your Longhorn community. With tailored sessions for freshmen, transfer students and families, orientation helps you feel prepared for college life.
Longhorn Welcome
Longhorn Welcome is UT’s official welcome for new and returning students. Starting with Mooov-In and continuing through the first week of classes, it features Signature Events, campus traditions and activities that help you connect, explore and celebrate the start of your UT journey.
Gone to CS
Gone to CS is your introduction to the UTCS community. You’ll meet fellow students and faculty and explore student organizations. You'll also hear from second-year CS students who will share tips and insights to help you navigate your first year.
CS Think Lab
Every first-year CS student is placed in Think Lab, a small group led by an experienced mentor. Think Lab meets monthly in a large session with faculty and weekly for discussions, an exploration of computer science, and study tips. You’ll also take linked courses with your section, making it easier to form study groups and friendships.
Personalized Academic Support
Academic Coaching
Academic coaching provides a welcoming, supportive space to reflect on your progress, work through challenges and build academic confidence.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure about how to manage your time and energy, academic coaching can help. You’ll work one-on-one with a coach to develop strategies that fit your learning style so you can succeed in your classes, achieve your goals and feel good about your progress.
Build Lasting Skills
Academic coaching can help you strengthen skills that support long-term success, including:
- Time management
- Study techniques
- Goal setting
- Test preparation
- Decision-making
- Self-advocacy
