The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at Austin ranks No. 11 nationally among undergraduate programs in the 2027 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, released today.

Several undergraduate specialties also placed among the nation’s leading programs. Artificial Intelligence ranks No. 10, Computer Systems No. 11, Programming Languages No. 12 and Cybersecurity No. 13.

“While rankings provide a useful point of reference, our priority is preparing students for what comes next,” says Işıl Dillig, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “We want to give students the knowledge, experience and interdisciplinary perspective they will need to shape a world increasingly influenced by computing, data and artificial intelligence.”

Undergraduate specialty rankings are based on peer assessment. UT Computer Science continues to invest in faculty recruitment, curriculum development and world-class research infrastructure, including one of the largest generative AI computing clusters in academia.

Those efforts are strengthened by UT Austin’s School of Computing, which brings together the Department of Computer Science, the Department of Statistics and Data Science and the School of Information. The school is creating new opportunities for students and faculty to collaborate across disciplines, develop innovative academic programs and address complex challenges shaped by computing and data.

“The School of Computing gives us an opportunity to build something distinctive for the years ahead,” Stone says. “By bringing together complementary strengths across computer science, statistics and data sciences, and information, we can prepare students to lead responsibly, pursue ambitious ideas and help determine how these technologies serve society.”
