Yudai Tanaka
Assistant Professor
Yudai Tanaka is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. His research spans human–computer interaction (HCI), neurotechnology, and haptics. He directs the Symbiotic Interfaces Lab to explore how people and computers can co-adapt to augment human abilities across sensorimotor and cognitive domains. His work includes building interfaces that connect directly to users’ brains and nervous systems to enable hardware-free touch, render full-body haptics, and narrow the intention-action gap in physical skills. Before joining UT Austin, he completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Chicago in 2026, where he was a Google PhD Fellow and Siebel Scholar. His work has received multiple paper awards at leading HCI venues, including CHI and UIST.
