Email Client Settings

UTCS is currently transitioning its email services, so there are two possible configurations.  Which one you should follow depends on if you are new to the department (technically, whether you've used your CS email account yet) or if you have an existing account that you've been accessing for some time.  These look very similar, but the server names differ slightly.

If you have an existing account

Incoming (POP/IMAP) Server Settings (IMAP is recommended)

  • Server Name:  For POP use mailbox2.cs.utexas.edu;  For IMAP use mailbox2.cs.utexas.edu
  • Port: 110 for POP (995 with SSL); 143 for IMAP (993 with SSL)
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS (preferred) or SSL
  • Authentication Method: Password

Outgoing (SMTP) Server Settings (Updated as of June 2015)

  • Server Name: mail2.cs.utexas.edu
  • Port: 587 preferred, 25 may work
  • Connection Security: STARTTLS (preferred) or SSL

  • Your password for outgoing mail is now the same as the one you use for incoming mail. There is no separate SMTP password required on the new server.
