We are delighted to welcome two new faculty to UT Computer Science in 2018. 

Hovav Shacham will join the UT computer science faculty in the fall of 2018. Shacham, who studied at Stanford University, was a postdoctoral fellow at the Weizmann Institute and previously was an assistant professor of computer science & engineering at the University of San Diego since 2007. His research interests include cryptography, privacy, systems security, and technology policy. At UTCS, Shacham will join the security research group, which investigates topics such as cryptography and secure computer systems.

Qiang Liu joined the UT computer science faculty this spring as an assistant professor. Liu earned his Ph.D at the University of California at Irvine and was an assistant professor of computer science at Dartmouth College from 2015 to 2018. His research interests include machine learning and statistics, as well as applications using probabilistic modeling. Liu is part of the machine learning research group at UTCS, which explores a wide variety of issues in machine learning.
