06/14/2012 - Associate Professor William Cook won the Best Paper award at the 2012 European Conference on Object-Oriented Programming (ECOOP).

05/23/2012 - Professor Peter Stone has been elected as a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) for his significant contributions to machine learning, multiagent systems, and robotics, and pioneering applications in robot soccer, trading agents, and autonomous driving domains.

04/14/2012 - Current UTCS Ph.D. Student Suman Jana is the recipient of a Google Ph.D. Fellowship and received the Best Paper Award at the 2012 IEEE Symposium on Security and Privacy.

04/12/2012 - 2004 UTCS Ph.D. graduate Luay Nakhleh has been awarded a 2012 Guggenheim Fellowship.

04/05/2012 - Assistant Professor Mike Walfish and Software Engineer Toren Smith have both been awarded 2012 College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Excellence Awards.

03/31/2012 - UTCS alum Paul Taele has been awarded an NSF East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (EAPSI) fellowship for 2012. Paul will carry out research in beyond-surface sketch recognition and interaction techniques in Taipei, Taiwan, with Dr. Mike Chen in the Mobile, Social & HCI Research Lab at National Taiwan University.

03/28/2012 - Associate Professor Kristen Grauman is one of 26 winners selected by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) as a 2012 Young Investigator (YIP) Award recipient. From a diverse pool of more than 350 candidates of university and college faculty who have attained tenure-track positioning the past five years, 26 winners were selected. ONR YIP awardees are selected based upon the merit of their research and potential contributions for game-changing advances for the Navy and Marine Corps.

03/12/2012 - "WebOS: Operating System Services for Wide Area Applications," a paper co-authored by Michael Dahlin has been selected as one of the top 20 papers in 20 years of publications from the HPDC, the International ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing. Co-authors of the paper, are Amin Vahdat, Tom Anderson, Eshwar Belani, David Culler, Paul Eastham, and Chad Yoshikawa.

02/28/2012 - Pradeep Ravikumar has been selected for an NSF CAREER Award for his project entitled "CAREER: A New Neat Framework for Statistical Machine Learning."

02/15/2012 - Congratulations to Associate Professor Kristen Grauman and Michael Walfish! Both were recently awarded Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellows.
