Risto Miikkulainen and Jacob Schrum Win Best Paper Award

07/20/2015 - Jacob Schrum and Risto Miikkulainen won the Best Paper Award in the Digital Entertainment and Arts track at the Genetic and Evolutionary Computation Conference (GECCO). 2015 Conference for their paper on "Solving Interleaved and Blended Sequential Decision-Making Problems through Modular Neuroevolution."

Peter Stone Wins Outstanding Paper Award

07/20/2015 - Peter Stone and his co-authors Miland Tambe and Fei Fang (both from USC) won the IJCAI 2015 Computational Sustainability Track Outstanding Paper Award for their paper titled “When Security Games Go Green: Designing Defender Strategies to Prevent Poaching and Illegal Fishing.” The Computational Sustainability Track "aims to apply computational techniques to the balancing of environmental, economic, and societal needs, in order to support sustainable development and a sustainable future.”

UT Austin Ranks No. 19 in World for High-Impact Research

Inderjit Dhillon Awarded ACM Fellowship & Texas 10 Teaching Award

UTCS Course Wins Tower Award

04/27/2015 - This year the CS 378 course won the 2015 Tower Award for Civic Engagement. The undergrad computer science course taught by Karen Landolt focuses on behavioral ethics in the digital age. The Tower Awards are presented annually to honor and highlight excellence in service among the students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas at Austin as well as partners in the community. Since 1992, these awards have been presented to honor the dedication of the Longhorn community.

03/27/2015 - Professor Peter Stone has earned a 2015 College of Natural Sciences Teaching Excellence Award winner. The Teaching Excellence Award celebrates the members of CNS faculty that excel in the classroom. The Awards were established by Dean Mary Ann Rankin to increase recognition of the college's many exceptional faculty who are committed to teaching at either the undergraduate or graduate level.

UTCS Students Win IBM Watson Competition

01/16/2015 - AUSTIN, Texas — Students from The University of Texas at Austin won $100,000 in seed funding for developing an idea for a smart phone app that would use artificial intelligence to help Texas residents get information about health care, food assistance and other social services in partnership with the United Way for Greater Austin’s 2-1-1 Navigation Center.

UTCS Programming Team Finishes In a Top Spot at Regional Competition

10/07/2014 - A UTCS programming team finished second at this year’s ACM-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) regional competition. The team of Arnay Sastry, Jaime Rivera, and Josh Slocum beat over 60 different teams competing in South Central U.S region of the contest.
