07/19/2013 - At the National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), Ray Mooney delivered the keynote talk on language learning, and it was very well received. Peter Stone was selected to be one of the co-chairs of next year's conference. Also, Peter Stone and his student, Daniel Urieli, won PowerTAC, the Trading Agent Competition on electricity markets. 07/03/2013 - Kristen Grauman has earned the 2013 Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence (PAMI) Young Researcher Award. The award is given to a researcher within seven years of their Ph.D. Kristen received the award at this year's annual IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR). CVPR is considered, together with the International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV), the top level conference in computer vision. Read more

The awards are given to faculty in the UT System " who have demonstrated extraordinary classroom performance and innovation in undergraduate instruction." This describes well Peter's contribution to education and mentorship. 06/14/2013 - UTCS Ph.D. student Yang Wang has earned a Google Ph.D. Fellowship in Distributed Computing. He is one of 39 Google Fellows who will bring their skills and talents to Google in pursuit of more innovations and ideas that the company can incorporate in the future. Google has announced the recipients of its 2013 Ph.D. Fellowship program, which the search giant promotes as a way to gain new insights and innovations from some of the best minds in colleges and universities around the world.
