UTCS Assistant Professor Pradeep Ravikumar is one of 126 outstanding U.S. and Canadian researchers selected by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as recipients of the 2014 Sloan Research Fellowships. Ravikumar currently teaches Statstical Learning and Data Mining, and his main area of research interest is in statistical machine learning.

Professor David Zuckerman has been elected as an Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Fellow. This prestigious honor is reserved for the top 1% of ACM members. He is recognized for his contributions to randomness extraction, pseudorandomness, and their role in complexity theory. Zuckerman's research also includes coding theory, cryptography, inapproximability, and more.

Dana Ballard has been selected to receive the 2014 Distinguished Cognitive Scientist Award from the University of California, Merced. Ballard's research interest is in computational series of the brain with emphasis on human vision.

Professor Dana Ballard, and his co-author Michael Swain of University of Chicago, have won the Helmholtz Test-of-Time award for their paper "Color Indexing", which published in 1991.
This award recognizes the best papers published at the International Computer Vision Conference which still impacts the field 10 or more years after its final publication./p>

UTCS faculty Chandra Bajaj and Inderjit Dhillon were elected IEEE Fellows.
Chandrajit Bajaj was selected for his contributions to image processing, scientific visualization, and computational biology. His research interests span the algorithmic and mathematics underpinnings of Structural Biology and Biophysics, Image Processing, Geometric Modeling, Computer Graphics, and Visualization.

Computer science students Jim Given (CS/Mathematics), Reid McKenzie, Julian Michael (CS/Physics), Suvamsh Shivaprasad, and Zachary Tschirhart (CS/Aerospace Engineering/Mathematics) and their teammate Eric Dawson (Biology) comprised this year's UT's winning Student Cluster team. For the 2nd year in a row, UT's team won the student cluster overall competition at the international Student Cluster conference!

Associate Professor Lili Qiu has been recognized as one of the Association for Computing Machinery's (ACM) 2013 Distinguished Scientists. Her research focus is on internet and wireless networking. Qiu's current projects include Wireless Network Management, MIMO, and Content Distribution in Mobile Networks.
