04/19/2013 - Four graduating UTCS students have been selected Dean's Honored Graduates for 2013. Only 20 students are named Dean's Honored Graduates in the College of Natural Sciences each year. Students Ben Braun (CS and Math), Kevin Luecke (Astronomy and CS), Joe Tessler (CS and UTeach), and Victor Vu (CS) will be recognized with a book award and framed certificate, seating on stage at graduation, a brunch and recognition ceremony hosted by the dean, and recognition on a plaque located on the first floor of W.C. 04/05/2013 - UTCS alum Paul Taele has been awarded a National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute (NSF EAPSI) fellowship for 2013. Paul will be carrying out research that focuses on enhancing creative computing tools for promoting better design thinking using sketch recognition techniques with Dr. Richard C. Davis at Singapore Management University in Singapore. He was also previously a recipient of the NSF EAPSI fellowship in 2012, where he had pursued research abroad in Taiwan at National Taiwan University. Read more

02/28/2013 - The Department of Computer Science's very own Kristen Grauman, who serves as Associate Professor, was recently awarded the Computers and Thought Award by the International Joint Conferences on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI). This award is given to scientists that are making outstanding contributions in the field of artificial intelligence. Kristen was recognized for her work in recognition and search problems in computer vision. Read more
02/01/2013 - Professor Vijaya Ramachandran was selected by the Executive Council of the University of Delhi as an Honorary Professor. This selection was made to recognize Dr. Ramachandran's outstanding achievements in the field of Computer Science. This honor includes the offer to visit the University of Delhi once a year to engage, through research engagement and seminars, with the students and faculty of the Cluster Innovation Centre at the University of Delhi. 01/28/2013 - Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam, a competition similar to a hackathon in which people come together to make video games based on a common theme. What started out as a relatively small competition has grown dramatically, with the number of games produced going from only 370 in 2009 to over 2,100 in the 2012 competition. Read more
01/17/2013 - Professor Calvin has been selected for this year's Jean Holloway Award. Calvin Lin was student-nominated and student-selected awarded for this recognition. The Jean Holloway Award for Excellence in Teaching was created in 1970 with an endowment from past Texas Exes president Sterling Holloway and his wife, Jean. The award, which amounts to more than $4,500 annually, is presented each year to a teacher in the College of Liberal Arts or Natural Sciences. Read more
