This year, U.S. News & World ranked the University of Texas at Austin the second-best university in the world for computer science out of 200 schools. The Best Global Universities rankings are calculated based on a school's academic research and its reputation.
UTCS was ranked below only Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, making UT Austin the best computer science university in the United States. Out of 1,250 schools from 74 different countries, UT Austin as a whole tied for 32nd place with Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.
Last year, UT Austin was ranked fifth worldwide and third among U.S. schools for computer science. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University, who ranked above UT Austin in computer science last year, came in fourth and second respectively. In addition to MIT and Stanford, this year UTCS also ranked above Harvard University, seventh, and University of California - Berkeley, eighth.
